Michael Lobato, Burglary Arrest, Wild Horse Mesa
Michael Lobato, 43, of Chama, CO, was arrested without incident on 01-21-2019 by the Costilla County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO), based in San Luis.
He was contacted as a suspect in a burglary in progress in the Wild Horse Mesa subdivision, south of San Luis, and is now facing burglary and theft charges out of Costilla County.
Michael Lobato was also wanted on outstanding warrants out of the Department of Corrections (DOC) with no bond, and Alamosa County with a $25,000 bond.

Costilla County Sheriff Danny R. Sanchez, the winner of the Democratic primary election in June 2018, was sworn in on January 8th, 2019. R. Scott Herrera was sworn in as undersheriff.
Sanchez replaced late Sheriff Amos Medina, who died on November 30th, at age 78, after 31 years of law enforcement service, the last 8 years as sheriff.
The Costilla County Sheriff’s Office, founded in 1851, serves San Luis, the oldest town in the state of Colorado. Colorado Territory was not formed until 1861.
The Costilla County Jail in San Luis is part of the county courthouse and sheriff’s office campus. It is a 20-bed adult correctional facility that can accommodate up to 16 male and 4 female offenders. The detention center houses people awaiting their arraignment hearing before the judge, and those serving sentences for a Colorado misdemeanor or a felony crime. The maximum sentence served at the Costilla County Jail is 24 months.
General visits with family and friends take place in a visitation cubicle, where visitors speak with the inmate through a window screen using a handset receiver.
Juvenile offenders who are arrested in Costilla County are briefly and separately detained before being transported to the Youthtrack juvenile detention center in Alamosa, which serves the six counties of the San Luis Valley.
